EX 000

Basic knowledge and awareness to enter a site that includes a classified hazardous area

This unit of knowledge covers the safety obligations and minimum basic knowledge of persons entering a site that has classified hazardous areas. It requires an understanding of the nature of hazardous areas, limitations on devices that may be taken into a hazardous area and the occupational health and safety responsibilities and procedures related to hazardous areas.

This unit is only theoretical and does not include requirements for ensuring the explosion protection aspects of plant and machinery.

EX 001

Apply basic principles of protection in explosive atmospheres

This Unit of Competence covers the basic principles of protection in explosive atmospheres of plant and machinery. Ex 001 is based on various parts of IEC 60079 series, and it is a prerequisite for the higher units.

There are no minimum technical qualification requirements for this unit, but the exam requires good basic knowledge and training in working in hazardous areas.

The assessment is only theoretical.

EX 002

Perform classification of hazardous areas

This Unit of Competence covers knowledge and skills to classify areas where explosive materials may exist.

Competence in this unit requires a degree, diploma or equivalent in a technical subject., see IECEx OD 504 for details.

This unit of competence is based on IEC 60079-10-1 and IEC 60079-10-2 and any other relevant standard that apply to this Unit of Competence.

The assessment has a theoretical part and a practical part.

EX 003 & 006

Install explosion-protected equipment and wiring systems

Test electrical installations in or associated with explosive atmospheres

These two units are assessed together for installation personnel, with focus on IEC 60079-14.

Both units include a review of the applicant's work- and training record. At least 3 years relevant work experience is required, see IECEx OD 504 for details. Ex 001 is a prerequisite.

The assessment has a theoretical part and a practical part.

EX 004, 007 & 008

Ex 004 - Maintain equipment in explosive atmospheres

Ex 007 - Perform visual and close inspection of electrical installations in or associated with explosive atmospheres

Ex 008 - Perform detailed inspection of electrical installations in or associated with explosive atmospheres

These three units are assessed together for inspection personnel, with focus on IEC 60079-17.

All units include a review of the candidates work- and training record. At least 3 years relevant work experience is required, see IECEx OD 504 for further details. Ex 001 is a prerequisite.

The assessment has a theoretical part and a practical part.

EX 009

Design electrical installations in or associated with explosive atmospheres

This unit includes a review of the candidates work- and training record. At least 3 years relevant work experience is required, see IECEx OD 504 for details.  Ex 001 is a prerequisite.

The assessment has a theoretical part and a practical part.

EX 010

Perform audit inspection of electrical installations in or associated with explosive atmospheres

This unit of competence covers the explosion-protection aspects of conducting an audit of an electrical installation. It requires the ability to verify whether an installation complies with the relevant hazardous area standards for that installation and includes the verification of design and certification documentation (verification dossier), maintenance, overhaul and repair, work safety, inspection against standards and reporting of audit results. This unit of competence is based on IEC 60079-14 and IEC 60079-17 and any other relevant standards that may apply.  Units Ex 002, Ex 008 and Ex 009 are  prerequisites for Ex 010.

The assessment has a theoretical part and a practical part.

EX 011

Basic knowledge of the safety of hydrogen systems

This unit of knowledge on hydrogen technologies covers the knowledge (ONLY) regarding safe working in the presence of a hydrogen atmosphere or on equipment producing, storing, transporting, processing, using or consuming hydrogen in gaseous or liquid form. This unit of knowledge also covers the safety obligations and minimum basic knowledge of persons entering a site that has classified hazardous areas as required for certification to Unit Ex 000 and expands upon these as they relate to hydrogen technologies.

CoPC UNITS OF COMPETENCE

We offer certification examinations in the following IECEx CoPC units of comptetence:
